In 2020 a Gold Coast homeowner attempted at getting rid of termites using a DIY spray with an active ingredient (Bifenthrin) this product is a registered product for controlling termites, but the homeowner wasn’t aware the product was a repellant chemical they will kill the termites that were sprayed but not transfer to other termites. This resulted in about 300 termites being sprayed in garden, the 300 termites died within minutes and other termites in the ground detected the repellant product in the ground and avoided that area moving onto other food sources. 3 Months later Pest-Ex was called by this client with termites in the bathroom and a $13,000 termite damage repair bill.
Another example is Schedorhinotermes termites, these are also common in Gold Coast and Brisbane areas. Getting rid of these types of termites inside a building will usually be suited for a termidor foaming or dusting type treatment into a sealed wall cavity. This treatment is then rechecked 21-30 days later to confirm pest numbers within the dwelling and then the external termite management system can be installed by either a termidor termite barrier or a trelona termite baiting system.
Getting rid of termites inside a home is extremely crucial first before any form of external system is installed. If termites are not treated correctly inside a home before a termite perimeter treatment is done you will risk trapping the termites within the home. All termites then need is a moisture source and the termites continue to destroy the home.
Getting rid of termites in a wall of a home will consist of either termite baiting internally until colony control occurs (usually 3 months) or internal termite foaming treatment or termite dusting treatment using a non-repellant product.
Stage 2 will be installation of a perimeter termite baiting system or termite barrier to protect the home from re-infestation.
Finding termites in your garden can be serious, before you treat termites in the garden its best to always have the home checked immediately. If the home is clear of termites its best to install a professional termite baiting system program. Just spraying termites with a product won’t get rid of termites in the garden long term.
Getting rid of termites in the soil can consist of either baiting or chemical termite barrier using termidor. The main thing you must be aware of when finding termites in the soil is
If termites are found in soil far from a home a spray treatment can be done to the affected area only saturating the affected soil area will treat the colony, but this type of treatment will not protect the home or control the colony.
Getting rid of termites in a tree stump will usually involve drilling the stump and injecting the stump base using termidor. The termites will pass through the treated base unknowingly encountering a lethal dose of termidor and the transfer effect will occur killing more nearby termites over the next 21 days after treatment. After the termite treatment has been done to the stump, the stump can be removed or ground down after 21-30 days after the treatment.
Treatment of a termite colony will in most cases involve
